PROPAGANDA |
BTHE
TRUTH |
- Smokers are addicted junkies who can't quit without our help. The
vast majority want to quit and welcome our intervention. Big Tobacco
is responsible for their addiction.
|
- Smokers CHOOSE to smoke or they'd quit like the 48 million
ex-smokers in the US who quit without help. Smokers have been led to
believe they are victims, but they are not. No one was ever forced to
smoke.
|
- The War on Tobacco is "for the children," and it's necessary to
stop Big Tobacco.
|
- It is not right to punish the 98% of adult smokers on the
pretense of punishing Big Tobacco.
|
- Smoking bans are good for business.
Workers have a right to a safe workplace.
The public is entitled to clean air and there is no safe level of
tobacco smoke.
All nonsmokers support bans.
Even smokers support bans.
|
- Smoking bans harm small businesses and put employees out of work.
Workers have a right to a choice of where they want to work. The
public has been misled for decades into believing if there's no smoke,
the air is clean. Smokers and nonsmokers do not want bans, only
anti-smokers do.
|
- Smoking bans help smokers quit. Smokers love bans and we want
to help them.
|
- Anti-smokers want to force smokers to quit. Their goal is a
smokefree world by 2015.
|
- Secondhand smoke is a Class A carcinogen that contains 4000
chemicals. There is no safe level. If you can smell it, it's killing
you.
|
- Sunshine is also a Class A carcinogen and normal human breath
contains the same chemicals. The "dose makes the poison" and SHS in
daily life is not dangerous.
|
- Raising the price of cigarettes keeps kids and adults from
smoking. Every 10% increase causes a 7% decrease in youth smoking.
|
- The price of cigarettes has increased 422% since 1991. The
percentage of adult smokers is the same now as then, youth smoking is
higher and kids are starting younger.
|
- Smokers cost society billions of dollars in medical care, up to $7
for every pack of cigarettes they smoke. Nonsmokers pay the
difference.
|
- All research except that paid for by anti-smokers shows that
smokers pay into the system far more than they take out. Smokers have
subsidized nonsmokers at least since 1994 says the Congressional
Research Service.

This petition will be delivered to President George W.
Bush, to Tommy Thompson at DHHS (who spends $3 million a day funding
anti-smoker activities), to John Ashcroft (who is crafting another attack on
Big Tobacco which will be paid by smokers alone), to the ACLU Lifestyle
Discrimination Division, to all Congressmen and Senators, and to the
governors of the fifty states.
PETITION
We, the fifty million smokers in the United States, believe that
under the Constitution our interests should be represented and that we
deserve equal protection under the law. In the current climate of fanatic
extremism against those who choose to smoke, a legal activity, we have
neither. We are burdened with oppressive, punitive taxes and selectively
discriminated against in employment, medical care, property use, and even in
our homes and families, with the blessing of our own government. We reject
the label of "addict," which validates the desire to vilify, ostracize and
demonize us by those who think it's their right to dictate how others live.
We are not weak, selfish, ignorant or stupid; we are not murderers or child
abusers because we smoke; we are one in four of your friends, neighbors, and
family. We deserve the same respect and dignity afforded every other
American. The War on Smokers must be stopped now by defunding the
hate-filled anti-smoking movement that is built on lies and arrogance. The
unfair, divisive and destructive behavior modification campaign must be
dismantled and those unelected non-governmental organizations and officials
stripped of their power to legislate and levy taxes on the citizens of this
country. We demand a return to the Bill of Rights and the Constitution with
inclusion of ALL Americans, including smokers, in the anti-discrimination
statutes of this country. |
